Renew Their Faith: Langwen and Gretna Golden-Hands

Description

On a secluded mountain path in the foothills of Jerall Mountains of Cyrodiil and Skyrim, Langwen the Wood Elf met a young Nord girl whom she recognized from the Marketplace District of the Imperial City called Gretna Golden-Hands, named so because of her skills in Restoration Magic as well as her skills in making money. Despite being a Nord and her obvious youth she had a natural talent for magic and the sciences, especially healing and being a merchant. Gretna is wearing a simple; if rather ornately embroidered and engraved; blue dress, apron and blue-dyed leather waist-cincher worn by successful merchants and members in good standing with the Merchants Guild. Her specialty was selling rare alchemical ingredients as well as expensive silks and cloths, making her already a rich woman despite her tender years. Her beautiful face, blond hair and blue eyes combined with the fact she traveled alone made Gretna a target for bandits and she was wearing an ornate steel sword and twin daggers to defend herself. Bandits thought a simple merchant would be defenceless and they were...FATALLY...wrong.

Langwen is wearing the Storm King armour which combines the absolute best in Nordic, Imperial and Elven craftsmanship, providing her an impregnable bulwark against arrows, axes, hammers, swords even Daedric weaponry. The pauldrons are made to resemble an enraged bear showing its fangs and the eyes of the bear are made from flawless rubies of the highest quality. The tassel is made from the strongest possible mammoth hide Skyforge Steel chainmail and the ceremonial sash is the thickest velvet dyed Blood Red, the colour of the Empire's flag...the Empire whom Langwen had sworn to defend. The breastplate is made from various layers of rounded metal sheets...expertly melded together. It covers everything from the neck down and ending at the groin and the entire armor set appears to have had molten gold poured on it expertly as it was being finished. The clawed gauntlets and boots resemble the fore and hind paws of a bear...making any punch or kick from Langwen instantly deadly. And finally to protect from the Highlands' harsh cold nights, there is a cloak from the entire pelt of a massive black bear. The armor also has enchantments to fortify Langwen's skills in battle and her heavy armor skill, making it light as a feather to wear.

Strapped to her back, Langwen had the massive war-hammer called Volendrung, a Daedric artifact given to her by the Daedric Prince Malacath, Lord of the spurned and ostracized, the keeper of the Sworn Oath, and the Bloody Curse. The last thing many necromancers saw before their deaths was the sight of Volendrung about to drop upon their heads. Both Langwen and Gretna were honorable women, sworn foes of dark magic and necromancy, and would kill anyone known of such practices on sight.

Gretna had told Langwen she was here to collect hawk feathers and mandrake roots which could be pulped together to make a powerful potion capable of combatting any natural disease. As well, she wanted to pray at a shrine of Zenithar which was located near the Ayleid ruins of Ninendava, whose name meant Fortress Without Water in the old Ayleid tongue. Gretna knew that Ninendava was an impressive temple and tomb complex supposedly inhabited by vampires and all manners of undead, and despite being a Nord, a healthy fear was in order as she asked Langwen to accompany her...which Langwen openly agreed. The feral, half-animal vampires occupying Ninendava had already been killed and the ruin was undergoing restoration but the mountain road was still dangerous, especially with Gretna's pockets and pouches weighed down by gold and ingredients. Zenithar was God of Work and Commerce, the Provider of our Ease, God of merchants and middle nobility, being the deity of wealth, labor, commerce and communication.

Langwen remained quiet and then told Gretna she was going to a Ayleid ruin which had never been discovered by man or mer...still perfectly intact after all these many millennia called Oio Angalayond, Eternal Winter in the Ayleid tongue which was located deep in the mountains and was a temple to Dibella, the Goddess of Beauty, Love, Affection, Art and Music. Gretna's grandmother had told her stories of this place but she always added she didn't think it existed.

"-I assure you, Gretna, it is a real place. As real as you and I are, or as real as Ninendava and the other Ayleid sites were, are and forever shall be. After you pray at the shrine, you can follow me to Oio Angalayond or spend the night at Ninendava, despite my  best efforts, I have yet to root out all the bandits prowling the mountain road. And there are things worse than bandits as you surely well know by now." Langwen said as she squeezed the young Nord's hand reassuringly as they reached the shrine of Zenithar, marked by a massive, ornate, gold-plated anvil, a symbol of hard work and craftsmanship. Gretna's curiosity was aroused and she wanted to see the Ayleid ruin which she didn't think existed with her own eyes.
