Gifts from Clavicus Vile, well earned indeed

Langwen the Wood Elf and Arielle Artois, a lonely Breton merchant in the wilderness of High Rock, homeland of the Bretons. Arielle had an heirloom necklace stolen from her by a group of bandits who ransacked and burned down her home and she had been tracking them for almost a day, exhausted and lost when she encountered a Bosmer woman dressed in the embroidered black robes worn only by vampires...or dark sorcerers. She was scared not only by this but by the horned metal mask and massive battle-axe the Wood Elf had on her back. Bretons always had an innate grasp of magic and the supernatural, and Arielle recognized the Masque of Clavicus Vile and the even more feared and dreaded Rueful Axe, which when swung through the air produced a horrible sound, the howling of wolves and a wail of pure agony. It could kill anything in a single swipe, human, Elven, Dwarven automaton, undead, Daedra, anything...and in the wrong hands it would spell disaster.

The Wood Elf removed the Masque, revealing her splendid face, warm smile and short cut blonde hair, as well as her warm eyes, promising Arielle that she would find her necklace and bring her to safety, the wilderness being no place for a woman unarmed...especially one who only specialized in Restoration and Healing magic. Langwen tracked the bandits easily as Arielle followed behind her, killing them both with a single swipe of the Rueful Axe.

After recovering the necklace, Langwen told Arielle that she would be put on the first boat out of High Rock to the Imperial City in Cyrodiil, to work at the Gilded Carafe assisting a fellow kinswoman named Claudette Perrick, one of the most respected and highest members of the Merchants Guild. As they walked the long journey to the port of Wayrest, Arielle's curiosity got the better of her and she asked Langwen how she came to possess not one, but two Daedric artifacts, and from the same Daedric Prince no less, Clavicus Vile, the Daedric lord of pacts, wishes and power.

The Wood Elf patiently explained how the Daedric Prince demanded an immensely powerful black sword in the possession of a female Wood Elf called Lenwin. The sword was sentient had in fact already taken over Lenwin, whose correct Elven name was Linwen (Linool/sweet) (Gwend=Virgin/Maiden), who despite name and her virginity was a battle-hardened mercenary who had been fighting since she could walk.

Not wanting to either kills a kinswoman nor displease a Daedric Prince, Langwen challenged Linwen to a fight and a drinking contest, drugging the spirits with a sleeping agent and stealing the sword...thus fulfilling the command of the Daedric Prince. However, Langwen's heart still remained saddened knowing Linwen's spirit was still trapped inside the sword. Clavicus Vile rewarded Langwen with His artifact, the Masque of Clavicus Vile and even offered to release Lenwin's soul in exchange for the execution of an entire coven of necromancers which have angered the Prince by attempting to desecrate His shrine. "-Make them suffer and die slowly." were the exact words the Daedra Prince used and Langwen fulfilled the order to the letter, releasing Linwen's soul back to Tamriel where she still lives today in the Ayleid ruins of Vindasel, now fully rebuilt and rededicated as a shrine to the Goddess of Love Herself, Dibella.
